Newspack now has a summary box for highlights over a story (or TGIF)

We’re happy to address the requests of several publishers by now offering a summary box that can appear above every post. Our colleagues at CalMatters use these and led others to say, “Hey, I want one of those, too.”

The process is very straightforward. It’s now a new panel in the right-hand settings column for posts. You get a title field and a body field. These both take regular copy, or you can drop html in there if you’re looking to spruce it up a bit.

That produces the box that appears as wide as your text on a story post.

As with all features, new and old, please drop your questions in the #newspack-help channel on Slack, using the new help workflow. As a reminder, that’s available only in the help channel when you click on the lighting bolt down in the dialog box.

Super Cool Ad Inserter gets a tuneup to keep ads out of odd insertion points

If you’re a regular user of the Super Cool Ad Inserter Plugin, you may have had the unfortunate experience of an ad dropping into another element of a story, such as between a pullquote and its attribution. No more!

The logic has changed so that the plugin now counts top-level blocks, not each element. That means it’ll count things such as headings, embeds, paragraphs, but it won’t inject ads into the middle of a group block for example.
