Changelog: New alignment options for Homepage Posts blocks

Tired of the ol’ left-aligned copy on your homepage? We’ve added the ability to center it or push it right. You can find the new control in the block menu that appears over the Homepage Posts block when it’s selected. Here’s a look at the right justified choice.

Changelog: Making your header sticky

We’ve added the ability to lock your header in place. One small caveat: If you use the Highlights Menu (shown below as DON’T MISS), it will be removed in all instances of your header.

To make the change, go to Appearance > Customize > Header Settings > Appearance and click the bottom option.

Here’s a look after we locked the header. Notice that the main image has scrolled up, but the header hasn’t. And the DON’T MISS line is gone.

Newspack is growing to serve you better

He might not seem too new, but Ken Gagne has finished a temporary four-month gig with Newspack, and he liked it so much, he’s now joined the team full time.

Ken is a Technical Account Manager and three-year veteran of Newspack’s relative, WordPress VIP, where he helped launched the sites of such non-profits as the Committee to Protect Journalists and Helen Keller International.

A journalist himself, Ken has been a beat reporter for the Fitchburg (Mass.) Sentinel & Enterprise (MediaNews) and an editor at Computerworld (IDG), for whom he is still a freelance writer.

Ken spent seven years teaching in the publishing department at Emerson College in Boston and still offers a

variety of online and offline workshops about crowdfunding, podcasting, and security. A digital nomad, Ken originally hails from Massachusetts but has been driving around the United States without any permanent address for the last two years. In his off hours, he publishes the quarterly print magazine Juiced.GS and hosts the audio podcasts  Polygamer and  Transporter Lock.

Newsletters are primed to make you big money

Our publishers call on Tuesday featured Ryan Heafy, who runs 6 AM City. The relatively new newsletter operation now boasts money-making publications in several cities, with plans to make it two dozen soon.

He generously explained the not-so-secret playbook he’s developed and offered some eye-popping rates he charges for ads, based on 50,000 newsletter subscribers.

You can catch the recording of the thought-provoking call here.

Archive of our calls

As most of you know, we have one huge and growing document that serves as our agenda for the Tuesday publishers calls. Shortly after the meeting is over, a link will be posted to the recording of the call. And if any slide decks were used during the call, we’ll link to those, too.
